The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has presented two awards won in separate competitions to the Vice-Chancellor and his Management.
These competitions, which took place in the last quarter of 2023, include the Women In Statistics (WIStats) Ghana National Quiz Competition held at the University of Cape Coast in October 2023 and the Ghana Statistical Service’s Statistical Knowledge Contest held in November 2023 as part of the 2023 African Statistics Day Commemoration in Accra.
Team HTU achieved third place in both competitions, earning citations and cash prizes.
Dr. John Coker Ayimah, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, along with the Head of Department, Dr. Worlanyo Saviour Akuamoah, and the Departmental Quiz Committee, presented the awards to Management on January 5, 2024. Dr. Ayimah revealed that the Women In Statistics quiz competition involved two traditional and three technical universities, while the Ghana Statistical Service Knowledge competition was exclusively for technical universities, with seven participating TUs.
The Dean expressed gratitude to the VC and his Management for their support, despite the short notice.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, commended the contestants and their coaches for their outstanding performance in the respective competitions. He urged them to maintain the momentum for future events, emphasising that such participation not only positions the University favorably against others but also provides positive exposure to students.
Other members of the Management, including the Pro-VC, Prof. Christopher Mensah, lauded the department and the faculty for establishing themselves as a formidable force in competitions.
