Dr. Edward Kwame Ayimey - Director of Planning and Quality Assurance

Dr. Edward Kwame Ayimey

Director of Planning and Quality Assurance (since August 2022)

Dr. Edward Kwame Ayimey is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing and has served as the Director of Planning and Quality Assurance since August 2022. He coordinates, manages and oversees the activities of the Planning and Quality Assurance Offices and reports to the Vice-Chancellor through the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

In September 2024, he received training in Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education under the Harmonisation, Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Africa Phase 3 (HAQAA3) Initiative. He holds a PhD in Management from the Open University of the Netherlands, an MBA from the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Commerce and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast.

Background

The Directorate started as the Planning Office in March 2003 when the institution was Ho Polytechnic. Though the Office was mainly responsible for academic planning, it performed some quality assurance functions. Consequently, the Office was renamed Planning and Quality Assurance Office in 2010.

When the institution was converted to Ho Technical University, the Planning and Quality Assurance Offices were established in 2018. Furthermore, the Directorate of Planning and Quality Assurance was established in 2021, comprising the Planning and Quality Assurance Offices.

Focus

The Directorate is mandated to perform planning and quality assurance functions within the University. Our focus covers:

  • Strategic and Academic Planning
  • Data Management and Statistical Reporting
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Accreditation

Mission

To plan and assure highest quality processes to meet acceptable standards in teaching, learning, research, innovation and administrative services of the University

Achievements

Coordinated the University's Cyclical Institutional Review activities carried out by GTEC.
Coordinated the development and implementation of the University's Strategic Plan (2023-2027).
Supported the review of all accreditation documents of the University.
Managed a credible data system leading to successful ranking in Global University Rankings.
Automated most of its activities.
Conducted various surveys and evaluations for informed decision-making.
Initiated the development of some policy documents for the University.
Developed templates and guidelines to streamline academic activities.
Organised various Continuing Professional Development workshops for faculty and staff.
Organised annual student engagement programmes.
Undertook working visits to UHAS, Ho and KNUST, Kumasi.
