In a bid to facilitate a seamless transition for fresh students into the University environment, the Office of the Dean of Students Affairs organized a 3-day orientation programme for the new students from Monday, January 15, to Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

The event, held at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium, aimed to familiarise new students with the University’s operations and foster a conducive environment for their academic and social growth.

Dr. Elizabeth Obinnim, the Dean of Students Affairs, opened the session and warmly welcomed the incoming students on behalf of the University’s Management. She emphasised the institution’s commitment to providing an atmosphere that supports holistic development. Dr. Obinnim encouraged the students to capitalise on the available facilities to make the most of their time at the institution.

She urged them to maintain good character and abide by all rules and regulations of the University, while entreating them to always approach her office should they face any challenge during their course of study at the University.

The University administration is committed to ensuring that every new student is well-prepared to navigate their academic journey successfully,’ the Dean further stated.

Prof. Christopher Mensah, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, on his part, entreated all fresh students to exhibit organisational skills and plan their schedules appropriately. ‘This is a University and so there is no rising bell as experienced at the secondary school level, as such, time consciousness is key to your survival’ he said.

The three-day programme provided an invaluable opportunity for freshers to connect with various directorates, faculties, departments, and units of the University through interactive sessions and informative presentations by various officers on diverse aspects of University life. Participants were oriented on issues such as campus life, academic progression, course registration, safety and security, health, sports, among others.

Over 2,500 fresh students have enrolled for the 2023/2024 academic year, which began in January 2024.
