Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, Vice-Chancellor of Ho Technical University, was recently honoured by Have Technical Institute for his outstanding contributions to advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) collaboration in Ghana and across the continent. This recognition came during the Institute’s 40th-anniversary celebration, where Prof. Honyenuga was the Guest of Honour at the Grand Durbar.
A citation signed by the Principal and Board Chairman of the institute acknowledged the VC’s inspired leadership and efforts to strengthen TVET institutions across the region, improving education standards and enhancing opportunities for students pursuing technical careers “Prof. Honyenuga’s dedication has far-reaching impacts, extending beyond the education sector. By creating opportunities for students to acquire practical skills aligned with industry needs, he has bridged the gap between academia and industry,” the citation read.
In his address, Prof. Honyenuga expressed appreciation for the recognition and assured continuous collaboration with stakeholders to advance TVET education in the region and beyond. He stressed the significance of TVET in achieving Ghana’s developmental goals, emphasizing its alignment with the AU-NEPAD Africa Skills Revolution and Ghana’s national education reforms. “TVET provides a bridge between learning and real-life application, fostering job-ready skills that directly impact industries and economies,” he said.
Prof. Honyenuga highlighted the importance of partnerships with industries, institutions, and government. “Effective partnerships bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring students gain relevant skills meeting market demands,” he added. He further called for a shift in perception, recognizing TVET’s value in building infrastructure, powering industries, and sustaining livelihoods. “Let us inspire a generation that takes pride in craftsmanship, engineering, and innovation,” he urged.
Prof. Honyenuga concluded by commending the founding fathers, staff, students, and alumni for their contributions to the institute’s growth. He noted that the institution’s legacy is evident in its accomplished alumni, who have become industry leaders and innovators.
