VICE-CHANCELLOR COMMENDS UHAS FOR INSTITUTING HEALTH RESEARCH CONFERENCE

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Honyenuga has commended UHAS for instituting the conference, which brought together practitioners, researchers and think tanks from the health and allied sectors to reflect on how to achieve universal health coverage.

Delivering his remark at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Research Conference 2024, the VC noted that the theme, “Transforming Health Systems to Achieve Universal Health Coverage in Africa,” resonates with efforts to explore plausible and feasible solutions to the challenges facing delivery in Africa, in a post COVID-19 era.

Sharing his experience in the Netherlands in 2009, the Vice-Chancellor brought to bare, the stark differences existing between Africa and Europe in the healthcare delivery system. He underscored the need for a revolutionary transformation in Africa’s health systems to attain excellent universal health coverage.

“HTU”, Prof. Honyenua announced, “has introduced a bachelor’s program in Biomedical Engineering to support the efforts of UHAS and the Teaching Hospital in Ho”. He again indicated that HTU has also secured funding from SIFA through AU NEPAD to establish a centre of excellence to train and retrain biomedical engineers and technicians.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by emphasising the collective responsibility to transform Africa’s health systems and urged participants to imprint the conference theme on their hearts.
