OVER 3,000 FRESH STUDENTS ADMITTED FOR 2023/2024 ACADEMIC YEAR – VC

The University has admitted 3,701 fresh students, comprising 2,340 males and 1,361 females for the 2023/2024 Academic Year. The students are pursuing various postgraduate, undergraduate (degree & HND), and other non-tertiary programmes across all six schools/faculties of the University.

This information was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, during the 31st Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium, conducted in two sessions.

During his address at the Ceremony, Prof. Honyenyga highlighted that the matriculants include the first batch of MSc. Hospitality and Tourism Management Students and MTech Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning students. Additionally, students are enrolled in new programmes such as BTech. Biomedical Engineering, BSc. Accounting (Finance & Taxation options), BSc. Financial Services (Banking and Finance & Finance and Insurance options), and BSc. Economics and Innovation. Naval students who have enrolled for the Advanced Certificate in Secretaryship and Management Studies under the HTU-Naval Training Command’s Supply Application School partnership were also among the fresh intake.

The new students took the matriculation oath administered by the Registrar, Dr. Christopher K. Amehoe, committing to abide by the University’s rules and regulations, foster good relationships with colleagues and staff, and refrain from social vices, including the use of illicit drugs and beverages.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated and welcomed the students, assuring them of a nurturing academic environment and reiterated the University’s commitment to supporting their dreams and aspirations through robust structures and support systems.

He emphasised the importance of good conduct, discipline, and diligence in preparing for future success, urging the students to embrace innovation and critical thinking in addressing societal challenges.

Prof. Honyenuga also stressed on the University’s zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline, examination malpractices, and sexual harassment, and urged students to familiarise themselves with the institution’s core values and regulations. He encouraged personal responsibility and seeking help when facing challenges, while reiterating the importance of academic integrity, punctuality, and professional conduct.

Highlighting the myriad opportunities available at Ho Technical University, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the institution’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for academic excellence and global exposure. He urged students to seize these opportunities through dedication and hard work, viewing their time at the University as a journey of self-discovery and contribution to society.

Collins Deladem Ameho, a BTech Computer Science student, and Sheila Attah, of BTech Civil Engineering, delivered expectation speeches on behalf of their colleagues during the first and second sessions respectively, expressing optimism for an enriching academic experience at HTU with the support of all staff and faculty.

The ceremony was attended by Management Members, including the Pro-VC, Prof. Christopher Mensah, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, as well as members of Convocation.
