HTU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology Launches 2026 Faculty Week Celebration

The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST) on Monday, July 6, 2026, officially launched its week-long Faculty Week celebration at the G. M. Afeti Auditorium under the theme, “Building the Future: Practical Innovation for Sustainable Development.”

The celebration brought together staff, students, industry partners, and other stakeholders to promote innovation, strengthen collaboration, and showcase the Faculty’s contributions to sustainable development. The event was graced by Prof. Francis Bruno Zotor, Professor of Public Health Nutrition at the School of Public Health (UHAS), who served as the Guest of Honour.

In his address, Prof. Zotor challenged academia to move beyond the confines of research and strengthen collaboration with industry, government, and communities to ensure that knowledge is translated into practical solutions. He observed that although universities generate valuable research, much of it often fails to influence policy or address societal needs. He therefore called for stronger partnerships among academia, industry, government, and civil society to drive innovation and sustainable development.

Addressing students, Prof. Zotor stressed that success in today’s rapidly evolving world requires more than technical competence. He urged them to cultivate resilience, emotional intelligence, ethical leadership, critical thinking, teamwork, and a commitment to lifelong learning. He encouraged students to take ownership of their personal and professional development, embrace innovation, and build lasting legacies by mentoring others and creating opportunities for future generations.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, who is also a member of the Faculty, assured the Faculty of Management’s unwavering support for its initiatives. He commended the planning committee for successfully organising the celebration and encouraged students to participate actively and responsibly in all the scheduled activities.

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Letsyo, reflected on the Faculty’s impressive growth and highlighted the achievements of its graduates, who continue to excel in industry, public service, and entrepreneurship. He also commended the outstanding performance of staff and students in national and regional competitions, noting that their accomplishments continue to enhance the University’s reputation.

In goodwill messages, Mr. Godwin Kweku Agbenyegah, Municipal Director of Agriculture at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and Mr. Governor Tetteh, Food, Beverages and Events Manager, commended the Faculty for its commitment to research and innovation. They underscored the vital role of science in advancing agriculture and urged the Faculty to drive the industrialisation of the Volta Region through local agricultural initiatives while encouraging active collaboration and participation throughout the celebration.

The Faculty Week celebration continues throughout the week with activities designed to nurture innovation, strengthen academia–industry collaboration, showcase research and technological advancements, and inspire practical solutions for sustainable development.
