DPQA BUILDS CAPACITY OF NEW FACULTY

The Directorate of Planning and Quality Assurance (DPQA) of the University has organized a two-day training workshop for newly employed teaching staff. The workshop took place on Tuesday, November 26, and Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

The workshop aimed to equip participants with innovative strategies and best practices in teaching, learning, and classroom management. It brought together new lecturers from various departments, creating a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and professional growth.

Dr. Mathias Kofi Ashiboe-Mensah, Quality Assurance Officer and facilitator of the workshop, underscored the importance of continuous professional development, and noted that ‘even experienced teachers can refine their skills to meet the evolving needs of students and the academic community.’

He shared expert insights and interactive sessions on topics such as cognitive learning strategies, classroom management techniques, innovative teaching methods, and assessment strategies. Participants engaged in group discussions, asked questions, and shared their experiences and challenges in teaching and learning.

Ms. Oyeba Nkunu Akyea, Planning Officer, highlighted the role of teaching excellence in maintaining the University’s high standards. She explained that surveys have shown that a significant percentage of student enrollment is driven by recommendations and referrals from satisfied students due to the quality of education HTU provides. She encouraged participants to continue striving for excellence.

Dr. Edward K. Ayimey, Director for Planning and Quality Assurance, underscored the importance of the workshop, saying “As academics, we must ensure that we have the capacity to teach effectively. This training workshop is designed to enhance our teaching skills and provide us with the tools needed to excel in our roles.” He therefore encouraged participants to implement the strategies and ideas discussed during the workshop to contribute to HTU’s ongoing efforts to enhance teaching excellence and student success.
