The 25th Congregation of Ho Technical University (HTU) has been held at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium, with a total of 1,632 graduands receiving their degrees and Higher National Diplomas.
The colourful ceremony, which took place on Friday, November 29, 2024, was presided over by Mrs. Levina Baah-Nuakoh, Ag. Chairperson of Council.The graduands included nine Master of Technology students and three pioneers of the Btech Tourism, Leisure and Events programme.
In his report, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ben Honyenuga highlighted the university’s progress over the period, including the introduction of 27 new Bachelor’s degree programmes and an increase in faculty PhD holders from 19 in 2019 to 70 currently. Professor Honyenuga also emphasized the university’s deepened partnership with local and foreign stakeholders, leading to the establishment of two centres of excellence. He noted that the university has taken substantial steps to enrich the academic environment for students, including the introduction of new programmes and the acquisition of modern equipment and critical resources.
Guest speaker Mr. Churchill Amedzeame, an alumnus and CEO of CABRID Company Ltd, encouraged the graduands to challenge the status quo and strive to become entrepreneurs rather than employees. He shared his personal story of starting a business from scratch and overcoming challenges to achieve success.Mr. Amedzeame advised the graduands to leverage their passion, learn continuously, collaborate with others, and be resilient in the face of challenges. He emphasized that entrepreneurship is key to creating jobs and driving economic growth.
The Ag. Chairperson of Council, Mrs. Levina Baah-Nuakoh, congratulated the graduands for their tenacity in completing their studies, urging them to put their skills and knowledge to the benefit of society. She also paid glowing tribute to the immediate past Chairperson of Council, Prof. Emmanuel James Flolu, for his leadership in the past six years, which has advanced HTU’s development.
Miss Rita Sam of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Technology emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Bachelor Degree Student and Valedictorian. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including families of graduands, and deserving graduands received special awards.
