Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga, with the support of the Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, and Medical Director of the HTU Clinic, Dr. Redeemer S. Fiebor, broke ground for the construction of a surgical theater at HTU Clinic on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Sponsored by a distinguished past student of the 1984 year group, the theater will feature a main operating room, waiting area, and two recovery rooms.
The VC highlighted the importance of the project in meeting the clinic’s growing demand and improving healthcare within the University community. He noted that, the addition of the theater will eliminate the need for patients to seek surgical care elsewhere, and assured of better access and quality services upon completion.
“We have long recognised the necessity of having our own surgical theater because of the overwhelming demand for our clinic services, and we are grateful to the sponsor for his generous support,” Prof. Honyenuga noted.
The Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Nicholas Awagah, whose outfit is executing the project, assured of timely completion of the project within three months.
Dr. Fiebor, expressed his gratitude to the past student for giving back to his alma mater. He again commended the Vice-Chancellor and his team for their efforts and was optimistic that the facility would benefit both staff and clients when completed.
The ceremony was witnessed by members of the Academic Board and clinic staff.
