The University Council has granted the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga a second four-year term. This decision was based on the positive review of his performance during his initial tenure, which ended on June 30, 2023.
Prof. Honyenuga officially announced his reappointment, effective July 1, 2023, during a series of stakeholder engagements with staff and media from Tuesday, July 25, to Thursday, July 27, 2023.
In addition to his reappointment, he also announced the renewal of the tenures for the Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, the Director of Finance, Mr. Augustine Kwame Owusu, and the Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Nicholas Awagah.
During the engagements, Prof. Honyenuga highlighted the significant achievements of Ho Technical University during his first term. These accomplishments included introducing more than twenty 4-year degree programs, establishing a research fund and Directorate of Research and Innovation, upgrading workshops & laboratories, enhancing the university clinic, and establishing partnerships with local and international institutions.
He also acknowledged the positive impact of staff development efforts, with more faculty obtaining PhDs and the promotion of six professors.
Looking ahead to his second term, the Vice-Chancellor outlined his plans to consolidate past achievements and lead the development of an excellent academic environment that fosters success in teaching, learning, research, innovation, and community service. He emphasized the goal of enhancing the university’s reputation globally.
Among the key foci for his second term were introducing additional undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, promoting quality research and innovation, enhancing student engagement and experience, and improving staff well-being and welfare services.
Prof. Honyenuga called for continued support from all stakeholders to ensure the progress and success of the University. The engagements allowed staff to interact with the VC and provide meaningful suggestions for a successful second term.
