VICE CHANCELLOR ADDRESSES CONVOCATION ON HTU PROGRESS

Vice Chancellor of Ho Technical University, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, has delivered the State of the University Address at a recent Convocation meeting held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The meeting brought together senior members of the University—both teaching and non-teaching staff—for a comprehensive update of institutional progress and an open exchange of ideas.

Prof. Honyenuga opened his address by commending staff for their resilience and dedication, particularly in the face of increasing student enrolment and mounting operational demands.

He highlighted key academic achievements, infrastructure development, and an expanding research portfolio. Notable initiatives include the SIFA-funded Biomedical Engineering Centre and the STAR-C solar technology project. He also acknowledged HTU’s growing international partnerships and recent student achievements, including scholarship awards and a strong performance at the 3rd GHATUSA Games.

On staff development, the Vice Chancellor noted promotions, enhanced welfare interventions, and the growing number of staff pursuing doctoral studies. He touched on planned infrastructure projects such as the proposed Radiology Centre, a baby-friendly facility, and perimeter fencing to improve campus security.

Addressing operational challenges, Prof. Honyenuga cited unstable electricity and unreliable internet connectivity as key concerns, adding that Management is exploring Starlink and other solutions to mitigate these. He reaffirmed efforts to improve sanitation and ensure financial stability through the restructuring of production units and support for internally generated funds.

The session concluded with an open forum, allowing Convocation members to offer feedback and recommendations. Prof. Honyenuga closed with a renewed call for unity, innovation, and collective commitment to HTU’s vision of academic excellence and national development.

Present at the meeting were other Management members including the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah; Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe; Director of Finance, Mr. Kwame Owusu; Acting Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Frank Klu; as well as other administrative directors, Deans, and Heads of Department.
