TUTAG–HTU Cuts Sod for Executive Ward at University Clinic

The Ho Technical University (HTU) Chapter of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has cut sod for the construction of a 12‑unit Executive Ward at the HTU Clinic, aimed at expanding healthcare services for the university community and the wider Ho Municipality.

The brief but colourful ceremony, held on Friday, January 23, 2026, brought together university authorities, health professionals, alumni, and political leaders in a show of collective commitment to improved healthcare delivery.

Chairman of TUTAG‑HTU, Dr. Stanley Nelvis Glate, noted that members are contributing directly to the project while mobilising additional support from alumni, partners, Members of Parliament, and other stakeholders. He underscored the need for collective effort, stressing that the clinic serves not only the university but also the municipality and the Volta Region at large.

Medical Director of the HTU Clinic, Dr. (Med) Redeemer Seyram Fiebor, lamented the inadequacy of the current 18‑bed capacity, which at times compels staff to nurse patients on chairs or refer them elsewhere. He said the new ward will ease congestion, improve inpatient care, and appealed for more health personnel to be seconded to the clinic to address staffing challenges.

Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, described the project as a demonstration of collective ownership, recalling the clinic’s humble beginnings as a sickbay and its vital role during the COVID‑19 pandemic. He urged other staff groupings within the University to emulate TUTAG’s initiative, emphasising that the expansion is about securing the future of healthcare for all.

Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Stephen Adom, pledged 100 bags of cement in support of the project, commending TUTAG for brightening “the corner where they are.”

The Executive Ward project, which is expected to be completed in six months, will be supervised by the Directorate of Works and Physical Development.
