TEAM ECOFERT CROWNED CHAMPIONS AT 6TH HTU-CIMG/GOIL ENTREPRENEURIAL AWARDS

The G.M. Afeti Auditorium of Ho Technical University came alive on Thursday, July 10, 2025 as Team Ecofert emerged winners of the 6th HTU-CIMG/GOIL Entrepreneurial Marketing & Innovation Awards.

Out of 125 entries, seven student teams made it to the finals, showcasing innovative projects aimed at tackling real-life problems. Team Ecofert stole the show with a smart proposal to turn agricultural waste into organic fertilizer and biogas. The team, made up of Owen Deladem Gbevoadi, Joshua Ananga, and Ismail Iddrisu, bagged the coveted cash prize of GHS 20,000.

Second place went to Team ECOWRAP, whose sustainable packaging concept using banana stems earned them GHS 15,000. Team NATURE TEX took third with their eco-friendly fabric made from pineapple leaves, receiving GHS 10,000.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, hailed the student innovators for their daring ideas, urging the winners to use their prizes wisely and encouraging others not to give up. He pointed to the HTU/DTI Innovation Hub as a space ready to nurture and fund such bold ventures.

Chairman of the Awards Committee, Professor Emmanuel Letsyo, highlighted the competition’s growth, noting a 100% increase in applications. CIMG’s Ms. Priscilla Menka, a rep from CIMG also praised the university for leading the charge in youth entrepreneurship, saying such platforms help combat unemployment and build a stronger future for Ghana.

The event showcased the power of youthful innovation and reaffirmed the need to support student-led solutions to national challenges.
