Dr. Paulina Adzoyi, Dean of International Programmes and Institutional Linkages has encouraged students in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management to start their own businesses while still in school.
She emphasized that this can help them avoid youth unemployment after graduation. “Don’t wait for someone to employ you after school; begin your self-employment journey now,” Dr. Adzoyi advised during a one-day seminar for hospitality students on July 18, 2024.
Sharing her experiences as a student and lecturer, Dr. Adzoyi discussed the challenges and solutions associated with entrepreneurship and highlighted the success stories of students who started businesses on campus. She cited theft as a major obstacle and encouraged students to use technology and creative methods to protect their investments.
Two Deputy Registrars, Mr. Edem Honu and Ms. Lawrenda Adiasany, also spoke at the seminar, addressing professional opportunities, debunking industry myths, and providing career guidance. Ms. Adiasany encouraged students to gain extra experience by attending industry conferences, mentorship programs, tourism fairs, online courses, networking events, internships, and apprenticeships.
The seminar, organized by the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management in collaboration with the Institute of Hospitality, aimed to explore “Hospitality and Tourism Career Prospects.
