SENIOR MEMBERS SENSITISED ON NEW HARMONISED APPOINTMENTS & PROMOTIONS POLICY

The University has organized a series of training workshops to sensitize faculty and senior administrators on the newly adopted harmonized guidelines on appointments and promotions for senior members in Technical Universities in Ghana.

The workshops, which were facilitated by the Directorate of Human Resource, aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the new promotion policy.

Registrar Dr. Christopher Amehoe facilitated the first session for non-teaching senior members, held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. He took participants through the harmonized criteria, which ensures fairness and consistency across all Technical Universities in Ghana.

The new criteria outline clear guidelines on performance assessment, contributions to institutional development, and professional growth. Participants also received training on report writing techniques and the promotion application process.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga facilitated the second training session for faculty members, held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. He presented the policy’s key aspects, including promotion criteria and required years of service.

Prof. Honyenuga stressed that career progression would be based on factors such as academic qualifications, research output, teaching effectiveness, and community service. He also noted that the harmonized appointments and promotions guideline was approved by the University Council.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah stated that promotions serve as a reward for sustained contributions to knowledge. He emphasised that lecturers should not focus solely on publishing academic work for the sake of career advancement but should instead prioritise meaningful research that adds value to their field.

The workshops form part of HTU’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance service delivery.
