ORIENTATION HELD FOR NEW HTU GOVERNING COUNCIL

Management of Ho Technical University has held a three-day orientation for its newly inaugurated Governing Council (GC), from Monday, September 1 to Wednesday September 3, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the University’s journey, as the new Council members were sworn in to steer the University towards achieving its vision and mission.

The 19-member Governing Council, chaired by Prof. Smile Dzisi, a former Vice-Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University and current Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, was recently inaugurated by the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. It replaces the old Council whose tenure expired in November, 2024.

Membership of the Council comprises government nominees, representatives of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Commission of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Association of Ghana Industry, Convocation, Teaching Staff, various Union Heads, Student Representative Council among others.

Welcoming the Council at the start of the orientation, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga expressed profound gratitude to members for accepting the call to serve. He reaffirmed Management’s commitment to fostering a collaborative environment that supports the Council’s mandate.

During the orientation, the Council members were taken through the University’s history, vision, mission, and strategic objectives. They were also briefed on the University’s successes, potentials, opportunities challenges, as well as the expectations of the various stakeholders.

The Chair, Prof. Dzisi expressed her commitment to working closely with the University’s Management, Staff, and Students to drive the institution forward. She emphasised the Council’s focus to supporting the University to attain academic excellence and innovation.

The orientation ceremony provided a platform for the Council members to familiarise themselves with the University’s operations and stakeholders. It also marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration and partnership between the Council, Management, staff, and students, all aimed at propelling HTU to greater heights.
