Ho Technical University (HTU) has commissioned a newly refurbished digital laboratory aimed at enhancing ICT education and research. The facility, located at the Octagon building, was officially opened on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in a ceremony attended by management, faculty, students, and key stakeholders.
Head of the Computer Science Department, Dr. Makafui Nyamadi, described the transformation as a game-changer for digital learning at HTU. “This expansion was necessary due to increasing demand for advanced software tools and learning space,” he stated. The new lab boasts 60 high-performance computers equipped with 16GB of memory and 1TB hard drives, all connected through a centralized UPS system. Security measures include CCTV surveillance and Wi-Fi access across all machines.

The facility comes after the refurbishment and retooling of the main computer lab at the Octagon in 2023, marking yet another milestone in HTU’s continuous investment in digital infrastructure.
Director of ICT, Mr. Mawuli Agbenorto, commended the university’s leadership for entrusting his team with the project, reaffirming their commitment to driving digital transformation at HTU. “This facility will push the boundaries of teaching and learning, ensuring students are prepared for the evolving demands of the digital world,” he said.
Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Letsyo, urged students to be responsible users of the lab. “Let us protect this investment. Theft or vandalism will only hinder access and long-term benefits,” he cautioned.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, who led the commissioning, praised Management’s dedication to academic excellence. “We are steadily improving all labs. This facility is not only for ICT students but for all departments. It will enhance learning, research, and employability,” he emphasized. He called for a structured timetable to ensure equitable access across faculties.
He also expressed Management’s gratitude to suppliers and stakeholders who contributed to the project, reaffirming the University’s vision of positioning itself as a leader in technical and digital education in Ghana and beyond.
