Management of the University on Monday, March 17, 2025 held a staff durbar to update senior and junior staff on the proposed university-wide staff welfare scheme, as well as other developments in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, emphasised that the increasing welfare needs of the University staff necessitated the introduction of a more structured and beneficial scheme. He explained that Managment, recognising this need, proposed and secured approval from the University Council for the establishment of the university-wide Staff Welfare Scheme.
He assured staff that the new scheme is an enhanced version of existing welfare initiatives within various unions and provides better benefits. He encouraged all staff to actively participate in the scheme to secure their welfare and future well-being.
Dr. Stanley Nevis Glatey, a member of the Ad-hoc committee that drafted the scheme’s policy and constitution, elaborated on the benefits, funding model, and eligibility criteria of the scheme, assuring staff of its sustainability and inclusivity. He noted that, the new staff welfare scheme is designed to provide financial and social support to staff during critical life events.
In addition to the staff welfare scheme, the Vice-Chancellor also updated staff on ongoing developments including, the establishment of the Solar Technical Application Resource Centre (STAR-C), university rankings, student enrollment figures, and newly introduced programmes. He assured that the university was making steady progress and charged all to continue discharging their duties effectively and efficiently.
Prof. Richard Turkson, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, also made a presentation on the commissioning of the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C), highlighting its significance, upcoming events, and future plans to expand its impact.
The durbar provided an opportunity for staff to seek clarifications and contribute ideas towards the University’s growth and staff welfare. Management assured staff of its commitment to ensuring a conducive working environment and continuous development of the university.
