Miss Theresa Akosua Makae, a Level 300 BTech Information and Communication Technology student, of Ho Technical University has emerged as one of the recipients of the prestigious MTN Bright Scholarship 2025.
Miss Makae, who also serves as a UI/UX Designer and Tech Community Manager at Node Eight- a digital innovation hub, stood out among thousands of applicants nationwide to secure the coveted award. Her achievement brings honour not only to her family but also to the HTU community.
She described the scholarship as a turning point in her academic journey. “I feel humbled and excited for the MTN Bright Scholarship. It is a huge relief and a big motivation which tells me my hard work is being noticed, and it pushes me to do even more,” she said.

She revealed that her decision to apply stemmed from a desire to ease the financial burden on her family while staying focused on her studies. With encouragement from her lecturer, Madam Jacqueline Kumi Asor, she submitted her application using her HND certificate to qualify for the top-up programme.
The process, she noted, was highly competitive, involving transcripts, recommendations, verifications and interviews.
The scholarship package covers tuition, hostel fees, a monthly stipend, and a brand-new laptop, which according to her will allow her to concentrate fully on her academics and tech projects. She added that, the scholarship will deepen her experience at HTU and position her as a worthy ambassador for both the university and MTN.
Beyond the classroom, Miss Makae’s works at Node Eight has exposed her to real-world challenges in design and technology. She credits her role as a UI/UX designer and tech community manager for sharpening her design thinking, teamwork and leadership skills. Balancing her dual responsibilities, she says, has taught her discipline and time management.
Looking ahead, Miss Makae is determined to contribute to Ghana’s innovation space. She hopes to use her skills to develop tech-driven solutions for challenges in agriculture, education and other key sectors. “In five years, I see myself as a leading product designer and community builder. running impactful projects, mentoring young talents, and helping more women enter the tech space,” she said.
She encouraged female students aspiring to enter the ICT and design community not to be limited by stereotypes but to embrace mentorship, continuous learning, and active participation in professional communities.
HTU congratulates Miss. Theresa Akosua Amakae on this remarkable achievement and wishes her continued success in her academic and professional journey.
