The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, on Wednesday November 13, 2024, convened a strategic meeting with the Directorate of Public Affairs to address current trends in university administration and governance. Recognising that online publications are a key metric for international recognition, he emphasised the importance of increasing the volume of website interactions University’s website.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the Directorate’s vital role in promoting the University’s visibility and advancing its standing in national and international rankings and stressed that the University’s website serves as a primary source of information which is instrumental to the branding of the University.
Acknowledging challenges in current reporting practices, the Vice- Chancellor encouraged a shift in focus beyond major events to include daily activities, projects, and developments occurring across campus.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, added the importance of consistent information update to stakeholders and the general public, adding that potential corporate collaborators prioritise the credibility of an institution’s balanced online information. He said however, the social media efforts is highly commendable. He again encouraged the Alumni Office to strengthen alumni relations through proactive outreach.
It was noted that the Public Affairs staff face some challenges that interfere with timely and balanced publication of events and developments on the University Campus. The ICT Director, Mr. Mawuli Agbenorto, pledged to resolve this by providing improved access and enhancing the website’s performance, making it more user-friendly as one of the official information hub especially for international communities. The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of Management gave his assurance to resourcing the Directorate to effectively perform its roles.
Staff from the Directorate of Public Affairs pledged to adopt these recommendations, committing to proactive and innovative approaches in its reportage, and publications. The team expressed a shared commitment to elevate the University’s visibility and meet the online publications target.
Also present at the meeting were the Registrar, Director of Human Resources, Director of Academic Affairs, Director of General Administration, and the Planning Officer whose respective roles support the efforts of the Public Affairs Directorate.
