HTU SECURITY GETS NEW LOOK AND TOOLS FOR ENHANCED CAMPUS SAFETY

The Management of Ho Technical University (HTU) has taken a bold step to enhance campus safety and boost the morale of its security personnel with the provision of new uniforms and essential operational accoutrements.

The uniforms, including brown boots, were outdoored during a brief but colourful ceremony held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the forecourt of the Administration Block. The event also saw the presentation of raincoats, torchlights, and two electronic hand-held body scanners to support the security operations.

The provision of the new uniforms follows an earlier gesture in 2024, when Management supplied branded polo shirts to the personnel to serve as their designated ‘Friday wear’.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, described the latest intervention as a strategic step towards enhancing security visibility and operational efficiency on campus. He noted that the new uniforms were not merely for appearance but symbolised the University’s commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and faculty.

“As a university, we are constantly evolving, and our security infrastructure must evolve with us. These uniforms, along with the additional equipment provided, are part of efforts to enhance your visibility and operational readiness,” Prof. Honyenuga stated.

The Vice-Chancellor urged the personnel to wear the uniforms with pride and discipline, reminding them of the trust the University places in them. “Your conduct reflects the image of HTU. Uphold professionalism, show empathy, and remain vigilant,” he advised.

Each member of the security team would receive two pairs of uniforms—one with short sleeves and the other with long sleeves—to cater for varying operational needs.

The Head of Security, WOI (Rtd) Issifu Zakaria, expressed appreciation to Management for the provision of the uniforms and other logistics, describing the gesture as a morale booster and a great sign of institutional support for the security team. He also assured the University community of the personnel’s commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and other stakeholders.

Present at the ceremony were Management members, including the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah; Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe; and other Directors.
