Management of Ho Technical University (HTU) on Tuesday, February 18, 2026, re-launched the Expert Cafeteria, marking a new era of renewal, improved service, and practical training in hospitality and tourism.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, who performed the official re-launch, urged students and staff to treat the cafeteria with pride as a training ground for future industry leaders. He explained that every plate served and every guest attended to should be seen as a rehearsal for greater opportunities ahead. “Let this be the place where you move from being students to being industry leaders,” he said.

Prof. Honyenuga emphasized that the relaunch was not about fresh paint or new furniture, but about reorganizing the cafeteria to serve as a living laboratory for hospitality and tourism management. He noted that the cafeteria must distinguish itself with unique, healthy, and memorable dishes that build goodwill and attract regular customers. He encouraged catering students and lecturers to pay attention to health-conscious cooking, avoiding artificial additives and preparing meals in the traditional Ghanaian style.

He further proposed that the cafeteria could pioneer innovative models, including experimenting with a 24-hour economy policy. He explained that students could take up hourly shifts to support operations, thereby gaining practical experience while earning income to support themselves.
“The cafeteria will be solving two issues—we will be training, and at the same time, we will be empowering the pockets of the young ones,” he said, adding that such models have worked successfully in other countries and could be adapted to HTU’s context.

Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, earlier likened rebranding to a snake shedding its skin or a bird molting its feathers, stressing that the relaunch was about renewal and adaptation to changing times.
Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Letsyo, expressed gratitude to management for returning the cafeteria to the department. He noted the improved menu variety and convenience, which now save staff and students from seeking costly meals outside campus.
Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Dr. Otilia Adzinyo, assured the university community that the cafeteria’s rebranding comes with exciting innovations. She announced the introduction of local and continental menus, office delivery services, and custom orders, positioning the cafeteria as a demonstration restaurant where students gain practical skills in food preparation and service.

With management’s support and the department’s leadership, the cafeteria is poised to become a hub of nourishment, connection, and professional excellence—anchoring HTU’s brand as a leading institution in hospitality and tourism education.
Also, present at the event were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, Director of Finance, Mr. Augustine Kwame Owusu, Director of Works, Dr. Nicholas Awagah, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty and staff, as well as a cross section of students.
