HTU OUTDOORS NEW STAFF WELFARE SCHEME TO ENHANCE EMPLOYEE WELL-BEING

Ho Technical University has launched a new staff welfare scheme, designed to address the welfare needs of employees. The university-wide scheme was unanimously adopted after extensive consultations with various staff groupings.

The scheme was unveiled during a two-day staff durbar, where members of the ad-hoc committee, led by Dr. Stanley Nevis Glatey, Chairman of TUTAG, briefed staff on the new policy.

According to Dr. Glatey, the welfare scheme aims to provide financial and social support to staff during critical life events, including health emergencies, retirement, and bereavement. He outlined the funding model, eligibility criteria, and contribution mechanisms, emphasizing the scheme’s sustainability and inclusivity.

He added that, the scheme will be administered by scheme executives elected by the various staff unions, with a board of trustees, providing strategic direction. While a general assembly of all staff would be the highest decision-making body.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga emphasized the need for a more structured and beneficial scheme, given the increasing welfare needs of university staff. He assured staff that the new scheme offers better benefits than existing welfare initiative in the University.

In a gesture of support, he announced the University Management’s decision to absorb the first two months’ contributions for all staff, covering January and February 2025.

The adoption of the new welfare policy is expected to boost staff morale and motivation, enhancing productivity and overall university performance.
