Ho Technical University (HTU) has played host to a high-powered delegation from the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The delegation, comprising Mr. Collins Osae, in-charge of Monitoring and Evaluation, and Mr. Claudio F. Mendes, Capacity Building and Certification Expert, were on a mission to assess the institution’s readiness to serve as a regional training and certification centre under its renewable solar energy project.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof Christopher Mensah, welcomed the delegation on behalf of Management and reiterated the University’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energy development. “Sustainability is a core value at HTU. We are ready to train professionals in renewable energy and contribute to regional development,” he stated.

Prof Richard Turkson, Coordinator of HTU’s Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C), also assured the delegation of the University’s preparedness to support the ECREEE project and promote solar energy education, leveraging its existing infrastructure and facilities.
Mr Osae noted that, HTU being the first institution to undergo this assessment, the outcome will serve as a benchmark for similar evaluations across the ECOWAS region.
The team was later conducted round selected laboratories, classrooms, and innovation centres, inspecting equipment and interacting with staff. This visit has spotlighted HTU’s growing prowess in renewable energy and its potential to emerge as Ghana’s focal point for solar training under the Desert to Power initiative.
