HTU Clinic Gets Modern Diagnostic Unit to Boost Healthcare Delivery

The Ho Technical University (HTU) Clinic has commissioned a modern diagnostic unit to provide X-ray and other imaging services, marking a major milestone in the Clinic’s expansion and healthcare delivery in the municipality.

The project, which was the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PureMed Diagnostics Limited (PDL) and the University, began in May 2025 with a sod-cutting ceremony to pave way for construction and installation.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Medical Director of the Clinic, Dr. (Med) Redeemer Seyram Fiebor, noted that the new unit will aid clinicians in managing injuries, respiratory conditions, and maternal care. He disclosed that the clinic recorded about 25,000 outpatient visits in 2025, with 92 percent of clients being non-HTU members, underscoring its broader community impact.

Dr. Fiebor expressed gratitude to University leadership and PDL for their support, while appealing to the Volta Regional Health Directorate to second additional staff to ease pressure on personnel and resources.

Managing Director of PDL, Rev. Isaac Amoah, described the collaboration as a model for public-private partnership in healthcare. He said the project will improve patient outcomes, create jobs, and strengthen the healthcare ecosystem. He emphasized that the facility is certified by the Ghana Nuclear Regulatory Authority, ensuring safe and effective use for both patients and students. He added that, under the MoU, PDL will transfer ownership of the facility to HTU after a stipulated period, assuring a win-win situation for all parties.

Vice-Chancellor of HTU, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, commended PDL for the collaboration and highlighted the high patronage of the Clinic by community members. He said the growing numbers require corresponding expansion of the facility, noting that while University Management will play its part, the support of stakeholders and partners such as PDL remains crucial. He encouraged other stakeholders to come onboard, particularly through the secondment of health professionals by the Regional Health Directorate, to help improve service delivery.

Regional Director of the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), Mr. Divine Kporha, lauded the Clinic for being regulatory compliant and pledged his outfit’s readiness to work with the University to elevate the clinic to hospital status. A representative of the Volta Regional Health Directorate, Mr. Gideon Dzorkpey also applauded the Clinic for complementing healthcare delivery in the municipality and assured of continued support of the Directorate to augment staff strength.

Other stakeholders, including a representative of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), commended HTU Clinic for expanding its service offering and providing internship opportunities for students.

The commissioning ceremony was graced by University Management, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, and Biomedical Engineering students, reflecting HTU’s tradition of blending innovation with community service.
