HTU CHOIR UNVEILS NEW ROBES THROUGH SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISING DRIVE

The University Choir of Ho Technical University has reached a significant milestone in its journey with the unveiling of new robes. Sixty (60) robes, featuring a blend of blue and white with a touch of red, were acquired through a special fundraising appeal led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga in June 2022.

During the unveiling ceremony on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Prof. Honyenuga expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support received from various staff unions and the University Management. Their generosity made it possible to procure the 60 choir robes.

In his address, Prof. Honyenuga underscored the power of unity in achieving great feats and applauded the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Elizabeth Obinnim, and her team for generously sewing the robes pro bono. He emphasised the robes’ significance as symbols of service and devotion to God and commended the choir members for their dedication to the University. He also highlighted the choir’s evolution from a staff choir to a university-wide ensemble, encouraging both staff and students to consider joining their ranks.

Acknowledging the logistical challenges faced by the Choir, Prof. Honyenuga assured that Management would work diligently to address them, seeking support from the University Community. He appealed to all staff unions, the SRC, academic and administrative units, as well as alumni, to contribute towards acquiring necessary equipment and instruments for the Choir, recognising their role in humanising the University environment.

Dr. Collins Nunyonameh, the Choir President, expressed immense joy and gratitude for achieving this significant milestone, acknowledging the invaluable support from HTU management and Mr. Henry Prince Kumeko, who played a crucial role in the choir’s formation.

Rev. Fr. Sylvester Agbezuge, the University Chaplain, dedicated the robes and the entire choir to the hands of the almighty God.

The unveiling event featured captivating performances by the University Choir, accompanied by the Mawuli School band, and collaborations with the male choral groups of UHAS Choir and the Pax Romana Choir. These performances underscored the universality of music as a powerful means of expression and unity.

The HTU Choir, initially formed as a staff choir in 2016, was officially inaugurated in June 2022, boasted of an initial membership of 33, which has since expanded to 45 members. It was during this inaugural ceremony that the Vice-Chancellor initiated the appeal for choir robes.
