FAWE GHANA AND HTU DISCUSS PROGRESS OF SCHOLARSHIP PARTNERSHIP

On Monday, June 16, 2025, a delegation from the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Ghana visited Ho Technical University (HTU) to discuss ongoing initiatives and introduce new personnel involved in the Mastercard Foundation scholarship programme.

Led by Programmes Manager Anna N. Nabere, the meeting focused on the progress of the scholarship programme and the role of Ms. Hanifa Panko Alhassan, the newly appointed field officer for Oti and Volta regions, who will oversee the programme’s implementation at HTU.

The scholarship programme, launched in the 2024/2025 academic year, supports students, including differently-abled one pursuing STEM-related disciplines, with 57 out of 200 beneficiaries nationwide enrolled at HTU, highlighting HTU’s vital role in the programme’s success.

During the meeting, the FAWE Ghana team, including Programmes Officer Dora Mochiah and Advocacy & Communications Officer Naomi Darko, addressed critical issues concerning the welfare of beneficiary students and explored strategies to create a supportive environment for their development. The delegation proposed assigning mentors to the students, offering both academic guidance and emotional support to help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the FAWE-Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Programme. He emphasized that the Directorate of Career Placement and Counselling would provide dedicated support to students and assured that other concerns raised would be addressed in the upcoming academic year. Prof. Honyenuga expressed gratitude to FAWE Ghana for selecting HTU for this initiative, noting its alignment with the university’s strategic goal of fostering inclusivity.

Dr. Leticia Effah-Manu, the University’s Affairs Officer and Focal Person for the FAWE Scholarship programme, assured the delegation of her team’s continued monitoring of beneficiaries to ensure the programme’s objectives are achieved.

Also present at meeting were the Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, Director of Finance, Mr. Augustine Kwame Owusu and the Ag. Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Frank Klu.
