Directorate of Academic Affairs

The Directorate of Academic Affairs (DAA) is one of the core functional areas of the Office of the Registrar, mandated to provide administrative support to teaching and learning in the University.

The Directorate oversees the preparation and implementation of all academic services including teaching and examination schedules, coordinating examinations and managing students records. The Directorate again ensures the processing of admission applications including advertisements for such applications.

Vision
To become the hub around which effective teaching and learning in the University revolve.

Mission
To provide effective support to the Registrar in the implementation of academic-related decisions of the University in order to enhance the attainment of the University’s vision and mission.

In carrying out its function, the Directorates focuses on the following in providing the various services of students:

• Preparation and implementation of teaching and examination schedules;
• Processing of admission applications including advertisements for such applications;
• Preparation and issuance of examination results, transcripts, and certificates;
• Conduct all examinations of the University;
• Preparation and publication of academic materials, including the Handbook of Regulations for students;
• Keeping and management of records of students;
• Coordinate the dealings of the University with all affiliated institutions. 
• In conjunction with other concerned Directorates, organises orientation programme to welcome and introduce the University to new students at the commencement of every Academic Year.

Achievements

• Re-creation of the Directorate of Academic Affairs both in the statutes of the University and operationalising it by the appointment of the Ag, Director.
• Intensification of admission outreaches to second cycle institutions, cities, towns,
• Improvement in student enrollment from less than 1000 students annually to nearly 3000 in the 2021/2022 academic year.
• Drastically reduced the period for processing and issuing documents requested by students and past students from 2 weeks to 12 hours.
• Compiled detailed admission requirements for circulation and uploaded them onto the University website.
• Improved and simplified the online admission application procedures.
• Successfully conducted semestral and other external examinations
• Facilitated the development of the Admission Policy of the University
• Reorganized students’ files for easy management and retrieval.
• Supported the development of new programmes for approval and accreditation
• Made over 50% improvement in enrolling international students on various programmes of the University
