Management has hosted potential international partners to establish a training hotel for the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The partners include a renowned hospitality expert, Ms. Nadja Mueller who has over twenty (20) years industry experience in Africa. The first visit was honoured on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, upon the invitation of the Vice-Chancellor. According to him, the invitation was to explore possible areas of collaboration, particularly, in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
During a meeting held in the Council chamber, Prof. Honyenuga briefed Ms. Mueller on the operations of the University, highlighting its niche area of hospitality and tourism. He also presented a proposed design of the university’s training hotel, with the hope of leveraging Ms. Mueller’s networks to source external support for its execution.
The visit, according to the VC was a significant step towards fostering international collaborations and enhancing the university’s reputation as a leading institution for hospitality and tourism education.
Subsequent visit on Wednsday, May 3, 2023, focused on the architectural plan of the training hotel. Philip Deoch, the ambassador and the Managing Director, Maxililian Hille of the Stiftung Foundation Block together with the Hospitality Consultant, Ms. Mueller expressed their excitement and eagerness to support the commencement of the project.
In a presentation of the proposed architectural design of the hotel training, the Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Nicholas Awagah hinted that with full support and available funding, the facility could take about a year to complete.
“This is an ultra-modern 2-star facility which will serve mainly as a training facility but will also be conducive for commercial purpose”, he added.
The Architect, Ms Matilda Emefa Ocloo, of the Directorate of Works and Physical Development also indicated that the training hotel will have a swimming pool, gym, infirmary, 200 capacity conference room and other avant-garde features suitable for a modern hotel.
Prof. Honyenuga together with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah said the University looks forward to furthering actions and collaborations with the experts in order advance the promotion of excellenct hospitality and tourism training, and to provide students with world-class education and practical experiences in the field.
Ms. Mueller on her part, expressed delight about the work of the university and gave assurances of bringing her vast experience and expertise to bear on the Department of Hospitality and Tourism. She also pledged to explore her extensive networks to support the university’s agenda of enhancing hospitality and tourism training.
As part of their visit, the three were given a tour of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, where they interacted with faculty and students.
Present at the meeting were Management members, Administrative Directors, Deans and HoDs of related Departments.
