DPQA ENGAGES FRESH STUDENTS ON QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The University’s Directorate of Planning and Quality Assurance (DPQA) recently conducted an orientation session for newly admitted students, focusing on academic standards, institutional excellence, and student engagement.

The event held at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium on June 18 and was led by Ms. Oyeba N. Akyea, Planning Officer at the Directorate. She provided an overview of HTU’s quality assurance mechanisms and highlighted the strategic role of the directorate in maintaining academic integrity.

Ms. Akyea also emphasized the directorate’s vision of becoming a center of excellence in academic planning and its commitment to enhancing teaching, research, and administrative processes.

She noted that, HTU has achieved notable recognition, ranking as the 5th Best University in Ghana and the top institution in Student Engagement according to the 2024 Times Higher Education Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings, hence encouraged the students to contribute to the university’s growing reputation by upholding high standards.

Dr. Edward Ayimey, Director of Planning and Quality Assurance, urged students to see themselves as “Quality Assurance Ambassadors” and to report any concerns regarding their wellbeing for redress.

The students actively participated by raising concerns, which were addressed by the DPQA team, including the Ag. Quality Assurance Officer, Dr. Grace Doku. The team also encouraged participation in evaluations, surveys, and feedback systems to inform policy decisions and foster continuous improvement.

The session concluded with a call for students to embody the university’s core values—integrity, inclusiveness, innovation, and sustainability—through active engagement in university activities.
