Ho Technical University has emerged winner of the prestigious USA Poultry and Egg Export Council National Chicken Cooking Competition, held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Flair Vocational Training Institute in Accra.
Competing against nine other tertiary institutions from across the country, HTU claimed the first position in a display of skill, creativity, and culinary excellence. The HTU contingent comprises, selected students from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
The competition, which sought to promote innovation and excellence in poultry-based cuisine, featured intensive cooking challenges judged by a panel of renowned chefs and food experts.
Presenting the winning team to Management, on Friday, June 20, the Head of Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Dr. Otilia Abla Adzinyo, recounted the preparatory processes. She explained that the University initially selected a team of ten students, who underwent rigorous training under the guidance of a renowned American chef. From this group, two exceptional students, Addoh King-Jones and Salifu Anyogbire Sherifatu were chosen to represent HTU at the national competition.


The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, welcomed the team back with pride and excitement. He congratulated the students for their stellar performance and noted that the university’s victory was further proof that Hospitality is indeed the University’s niche area. He encouraged the students to share the knowledge and skills gained with their colleague students, urging them to remain excellent ambassadors of the University wherever they go. Prof. Honyenuga also extended special commendation to Mr. Marvin Mensah, an administrative staff of the Department who led the HTU contingent to Accra for the event.
The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Letsyo, officially presented the prizes to university management. Addoh King-Jones and Salifu Anyogbire Sherifatu received certificates of merit and participation, cash prizes of GHS 2,500 each, plaques, power banks, and a three-month industrial attachment opportunity at Labadi Beach Hotel.
In recognition of HTU’s first-place win, the University also received several institutional prizes, including Mandolin Slicing Sets, 3 sets of Stainless-Steel Flatware, 3 pieces of Hoffavorer Stock Pots, 1 Binatone High-Speed Blender, 2 Die Casting Double Grill Pans, 2 sets of Digital Fruit & Vegetable Juice Extractor, and 3 pieces of Kala Cookware.


Other team members who contributed to the preparatory phase included Kokokpa Shirley-Ann, Obo Pamela, Narh-Dor Joseph, Atagba Dzidula Kofi Eric, Dogbo Pamela, Habadah Ewoenam, Agbo Millicent, and Agbezudor Shepherd, all students of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Present at the meeting were other Management members, including, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, Registrar, Dr. Crhistopher Amehoe, Ag. Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Frank Klu and the Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Selase.
