HTU, VANUATU TRADE C’SION CHAMPION AI SKILLS FOR STAFF AND FACULTY

Ho Technical University in a forward-looking partnership with the Vanuatu Trade Commission, hosted a two-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) capacity-building workshop for its staff and faculty from June 9–10, 2025 at the STAR-C conference room.

The workshop was designed to demystify AI and equip participants with practical skills to enhance teaching, research, and administrative delivery. Expert facilitators from the Vanuatu Trade Commission walked attendees through AI fundamentals, effective prompt writing, and practical tools for boosting productivity across academic and non-academic roles.

Welcoming participants, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga, lauded the collaboration and urged participants to engage the sessions fully. He stressed that the training—offered at no cost to participants—was fully sponsored by the Vanuatu Trade Commission, and underscored the urgent need to embrace AI as a game-changer across all disciplines.

H.E. Amb. Prof. Hugh K. Aryee, Trade Commissioner of the Vanuatu Trade Commission, expressed satisfaction with the participants’ enthusiasm, noting that such initiatives are crucial for building Africa’s technological readiness. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to nurturing innovation and strengthening human capacity through ongoing collaborations with HTU.

The sessions were interactive, with live demonstrations and contextual use cases from sectors like education, health, governance, and entrepreneurship. Participants shared their appreciation for the hands-on experience and pledged to apply the insights in their various spheres.

The AI workshop is part of a broader cooperation agreement between HTU and the Vanuatu Trade Commission aimed at promoting research, innovation, and digital transformation in Ghana’s higher education space.
