A two-day orientation session was organized for newly appointed faculty and staff of the University to acclimate them to the University environment. Organized by the Directorate of Human Resource, under the Office of the Registrar, about 30 new staff members attended the sessions held on October 21 and 22 at the Amatrol Lab.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga warmly welcomed the new team, stating that their selection was based on exceptional competence and expertise to drive the University’s mandate. “Our vision is to become a hub of practical education and innovation, advancing sustainable global development,” he explained. “Your skills and passion are crucial to achieving this goal.”
Prof. Honyenuga also outlined the University’s strategic direction and encouraged the new staff to foster collegiality, humility, and teamwork. “Your role is to empower students to transition from inability to ability; that’s when teaching is truly accomplished.” He further advised them to pursue research, innovation, and extension services to progress on the academic ladder.
Registrar Dr. Christopher Amehoe presented the University’s governance structure, taking the new staff through the organizational framework, channel communication, and grievance addressing procedures. He also introduced them to the University’s various policies and encouraged them to familiarize themselves with them.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Christopher Mensah outlined the Scheme of Service, covering expectations, benefits, and growth opportunities. He urged faculty members to thoroughly prepare for lectures and be punctual in class. He also discussed requirements for staff to move from one level to another, tenure of contract, promotion criteria, conduct, and commitment.
Director of Planning and Quality Assurance Dr. Edward Ayimey discussed smooth teaching practices, stressing the importance of designing comprehensive course outlines aligned with the University’s mission and vision. He reminded staff of the University’s policy against selling learning materials to students.
Medical Director Dr. Redeemer Fiebor emphasized the importance of healthcare and compulsory medical examinations for new staff. Acting Director of ICT introduced the Students Online Information Management system and HTU-LMS, providing guidance on their effective use.
The orientation equipped new faculty and staff with essential knowledge, preparing them to contribute to HTU’s success.
