Ho Technical University (HTU) distinguished itself at the maiden University of Ghana Invitational Championship, hosted at the University of Ghana Stadium from May 17–24, 2026, where nine institutions competed for honours.
Team HTU athletes delivered a spirited performance, securing six silver medals and one bronze medal across diverse track and field events.
Among the standout athletes was Patience Dometi, a Level 100 student of Automobile Engineering, who won silver medals in Shot Put, Javelin, and Discus, demonstrating remarkable versatility in field events. Richmond Agbesi added to the tally with a silver medal in Javelin, while Samuel Dagbui earned silver in Triple Jump and bronze in Long Jump, showcasing HTU’s strength in jumps.
The men’s team also clinched silver in the 4x100m relay final, underscoring HTU’s collective determination and teamwork.



The HTU contingent was ably led by Assistant Sports Officer, Mr. Otis Dodzi Ahorsey, whose guidance and coordination contributed to the team’s success.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga commended the athletes and their coaches for their dedication, noting that the achievement reflects HTU’s motto, Adanu Nazu Kekeli — Knowledge, Skill, and Light. He emphasized that the victories highlight the university’s growing reputation not only in academics and innovation but also in competitive sports.
The success at the University of Ghana Invitational Championship marks a significant milestone for HTU, reinforcing its position as a rising force in athletics among Ghana’s tertiary institutions.
