Management of the University has commenced a two-day orientation and training workshop for Heads of Department (HoDs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Quarshie Honyenuga, charging participants to uphold professionalism, integrity, and innovation in their leadership roles.
Opening the sessions on Monday, September 7, 2026, Prof. Honyenuga underscored that the position of HoD is one of the critical roles in university management, directly mandated by the Vice-Chancellor to implement the agenda of leadership. He emphasized that HoDs are the operational heads whose effectiveness determines the progress of the institution.
He described the orientation as an annual refresher programme designed to align HoDs with the strategic direction of the University. The sessions, he noted, provide a platform for management and academic heads to share ideas, and for experienced and newly appointed HoDs to exchange notes on departmental administration in line with the University’s mandate.
The two-day programme features presentations on the strategic direction of the University, financial mobilization and regulations, core duties of HoDs, and ethical conduct. Day Two will highlight HoDs as quality assurance agents, their relationship with deans, faculty and students, mentorship and academic advising, as well as campus development and accreditation monitoring.
Facilitators include the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, the Director of Finance, the Director of Works and Physical Development, and other senior officials of the University.
