HTU SECURITY ENHANCES CAPACITY WITH INTENSIVE TRAINING WORKSHOP

In preparation for the start of the new academic year, the Office of the Registrar through the Directorate of Human Resource and the Head of Security organized a one-day training workshop for personnel of the Security Unit on October 15, 2024.

The workshop aimed to boost the capacity of security personnel in providing top-notch services to the University community.

The Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, welcomed participants and highlighted the Security Unit’s vital role in maintaining order and protecting life and property within the university, stressing the need for constant skill sharpening.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Christopher Mensah stressed the importance of a safe environment for prospective students, noting that insecurity would discourage enrollments. He urged the guards to upgrade their skills to tackle emerging security challenges, as thieves and miscreants continually update their tactics.

The facilitator, DSP Eugene Amoah Sampah, Deputy Superintendent of Police and second-in-command of the Volta Regional Police Training School-Ho, delivered a comprehensive presentation, demonstrating techniques for arresting lawbreakers. He elaborated on security awareness, collaboration with stakeholders, crime prevention, emergency response mechanisms, effective security measures, radio communication, and handcuff use.

The session allowed security personnel to ask pertinent questions and seek clarifications. WO1 Issifu Zakaria, Head of Security, presented on approach to security and crisis management, security awareness, vigilance, and ethics. He charged the personnel to close their ranks and embrace loyalty, diligence, compliance, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties to ensure the University’s reputable image remains intact.

The workshop also featured a group brainstorming session on crisis response and a video presentation on security surveillance and preparedness.
