HTU Hosts PLAN International Ghana’s Orientation for ASEYE Project Team

Ho Technical University (HTU), on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, hosted an orientation programme organised by PLAN International Ghana for members of the University’s implementation team under the Accelerating Skills for Employment and Entrepreneurship (ASEYE) Project.

The orientation formed part of preparations towards the establishment of a Hub of Excellence at HTU under the ASEYE Project, which is funded by Hyundai Motor Company and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The initiative aims to empower young people, particularly girls and other vulnerable youth, with the technical skills, entrepreneurial competencies, resources and institutional support needed to thrive in the automotive industry.

Welcoming officials of PLAN International Ghana and participants, the Vice-Chancellor , Prof. Ben Honyenuga expressed appreciation to PLAN International Ghana and its partners for their continued confidence in the University. He described the orientation as another significant step towards the establishment of the Hub of Excellence and reaffirmed Management’s commitment to providing the necessary institutional support for the successful implementation of the project. He urged members of the University’s implementation team to embrace their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism and a collaborative spirit to ensure the project’s objectives are achieved.

Leading the first session, Mr Nii Tackie-Otoo, Project Manager of the ASEYE Project, took participants through an overview of the project, outlining its objectives, implementation framework, expected outcomes and timelines. He also explained the roles and responsibilities of the University’s implementation team and engaged participants in discussions to ensure a common understanding of the project’s implementation strategy and expectations.

Mr Haruna Salifu, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Specialist, subsequently facilitated a session on data collection methodologies, monitoring and evaluation, reporting requirements and record-keeping procedures. He underscored the importance of accurate data management, timely reporting and proper documentation in tracking project progress, ensuring accountability and supporting evidence-based decision-making throughout the implementation process.

Taking participants through communication, media engagement and branding protocols, Ms. Edna Boakye, the Communications Officer, highlighted the importance of effective stakeholder engagement and adherence to donor visibility requirements. She explained the project’s communication guidelines, media engagement procedures and branding standards, stressing the need for consistency in projecting the identities of the implementing and funding partners across all project activities and communication materials.

The orientation also featured sessions on financial and operational compliance. Mr Eugene Kyei-Sarpong, the Grants Accountant, oriented participants on financial management and reporting procedures, emphasising prudent utilisation of project funds, compliance with grant requirements and sound financial accountability. This was followed by Mr Kingsley Oppong, the Supply Chain Manager, who took participants through procurement procedures and best practices, highlighting the importance of transparency, value for money and adherence to approved procurement processes throughout the implementation of the project.

The orientation concluded with a question-and-answer session, where members of the University’s implementation team sought clarification on various aspects of the project. The programme reaffirmed the strong partnership between HTU and PLAN International Ghana and underscored their shared commitment to strengthen TVET delivery to equip young people with industry-relevant skills for sustainable employment in Ghana’s automotive sector.
