HTU Business School Trains VLTC Management in Leadership Essentials

A team from the HTU Business School has delivered a day’s transformational leadership and customer excellence training for management staff of the Volta Lake Transport Company (VLTC).

The programme, held at Hotel Stevens in Ho on Friday, April 17, 2026, was held under the theme “Leadership that Multiplies Impact: Building a High-Performance, Ethical, and Collaborative Organization.”

The programme was spearheaded by the Dean of the Business School, Prof. Edem Azila-Gbettor, and facilitated by the Directorate of Public Affairs through its Acting Director, Mr. Francis K. Ganyaglo. Senior management of VLTC, including the Managing Director, Hon. Angela Oforiwaa Alorwu-Tay, participated in the intensive sessions designed to strengthen leadership capacity and enhance service excellence.

In addition to the Dean, resource persons included Dr. Stanley Nelvis Glatey of the Department of Marketing and Mr. Martin Abiemo of the Department of Management Sciences, who delivered tailored presentations. Dr. Glatey emphasized customer care, highlighting staff training, clear service standards, feedback systems, and recognition of excellence as pillars of reliable service.

Prof. Azila-Gbettor guided participants on building high-performance teams through collaboration, stressing the need to break silos and align goals with corporate objectives. Mr. Abiemo addressed mentorship and succession planning, cautioning that organizations without succession strategies risk leadership crises, and recommending peer, reverse, and group mentoring to safeguard institutional knowledge.

The training also explored ethical excellence and psychological safety, urging participants to strengthen professional integrity, handle sensitive information responsibly, and build trust for sustainable organizational growth.

The Managing Director, Hon. Angela Oforiwaa Alorwu-Tay, commended the HTU team for the impactful session and assured that the collaboration between VLTC and HTU will be sustained into the future.

The collaboration forms part of the University’s commitment to community engagement and industry support aimed at promoting integrity, accountability and professionalism in public sector institutions.
