The Department of Marketing of the HTU Business School has celebrated the retirement of Mr. Simon Avorgah, a senior lecturer whose 25 years of dedicated service have left an enduring legacy in the institution.
The colourful send-off ceremony was held at the SSNIT Canteen in Ho.
The Head of Department, Dr. Ernest Tsetse, in his remarks, highlighted Mr. Avorgah’s immense contributions to the department and the university community. In appreciation of his service, he presented a citation and a cash token on behalf of the department.
Tributes flowed from colleagues and friends. The Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Francis Komla Ganyaglo, who has journeyed alongside Mr. Avorgah since their student days at the then Ho Polytechnic in 1997, eulogised him for his dedication and selflessness both as a student and later as a colleague lecturer. He wished him well in retirement, commending his loyalty and service to the university.
Dr. Edward Ayimey, Director of Planning & Quality Assurance and former Head of Department, praised Mr. Avorgah for his consistency and devotion to the growth of the Marketing Department, noting his role in shaping both academic standards and professional ethics.
Mr. Evaristus Tepprey, Senior Assistant Registrar and School Administrator of the HTU Business School, speaking on behalf of the Dean, commended the retiree for his service in various capacities and his unwavering devotion to the school.
Dr. Stanley Glate, a former student and now departmental colleague, lauded Mr. Avorgah’s mentorship and guidance over the years. He presented a personal citation in recognition of the retiree’s profound influence on generations of students and colleagues.
In his heartfelt response, Mr. Avorgah expressed gratitude to the department for organizing the celebration in his honour. He acknowledged the mentorship of Dr. Edward Ayimey in shaping his career, warmly recognized the presence of colleagues and students, and reflected on his journey from student to lecturer at HTU.
Offering words of advice, he urged all present to remain determined in the pursuit of their goals despite life’s challenges. He encouraged colleagues and staff to foster unity and avoid grudges, reminding them that professional paths often cross and mutual support is essential for collective progress.
The ceremony concluded with applause and warm fellowship, marking not only the end of Mr. Avorgah’s distinguished career but also reinforcing HTU’s tradition of celebrating service, mentorship, and academic excellence.
