HTU Hosts Namibian High Commissioner to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Management of Ho Technical University (HTU) on Monday, 17th August 2026, received H.E. Mrs. Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, Namibian High Commissioner to Ghana, during her official visit to the Volta Region.

The engagement highlighted Ghana–Namibia relations, with emphasis on economic and educational diplomacy.

The High Commissioner, expressed delight at being in the Volta Region, noting that it felt like home. She underscored her mission to extend economic diplomacy under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and emphasized that educational diplomacy is central to her agenda.

She proposed collaboration between HTU and the University of Namibia in agriculture and other sectors, while highlighting Namibia’s need for solar technology training to upscale vocational trainers under the Namibia Training Authority. She assured the University of her readiness to facilitate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the partnership.

Welcoming the envoy, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Quarshie Honyenuga, briefed her on the University’s operations and mandate. He traced HTU’s journey from its technical institute days to its current status as a university, emphasizing its commitment to hands-on training.

Prof. Honyenuga assured the High Commissioner of HTU’s readiness to partner with counterparts in Namibia through student and faculty exchanges, as well as joint research programmes. He expressed appreciation for her visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing collaborations that advance technical and vocational education across Africa.

The diplomat was accompanied by Mr. Dela Gbeve, Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and a member of the University Council, together with officials of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC). Their presence underscored the broader institutional and regional support for strengthening Ghana–Namibia cooperation.

The visit concluded with mutual assurances of cooperation, setting the stage for a formal partnership that will advance shared goals in education, agriculture, and renewable energy.
