Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga has reaffirmed Ho Technical University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and sustainable growth during the State of the University Address at Convocation held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
He commended faculty and staff for their dedication, noting significant gains in teaching and learning, research and innovation, partnerships, governance, infrastructure and financial sustainability.
Prof. Honyenuga announced the successful commencement and near completion of the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, alongside the launch of a Digital Skills Training Programme with Plan International Ghana, Nokia and NextGen Infraco, and the introduction of new postgraduate and diploma programmes. He also highlighted student-focused initiatives such as career counselling, quality assurance sessions and International Students Day activities.
On research and innovation, the Vice-Chancellor outlined milestone projects including the €2.1 million SIFA Biomedical Engineering Centre of Excellence, the ASEYE Project in electric vehicle technology, the National Baobab Mapping (BAOMAP) Project, the Ghana Data Science Summit, and preparations for the FATAS Conference. These, he said, reinforce HTU’s role as a hub for applied research and technological advancement.
He further cited growing international collaborations with AUDA-NEPAD, WUSC, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Plan International Ghana and the E4Impact Foundation, which are expanding opportunities for staff, students and industry engagement.
Prof. Honyenuga also noted HTU’s rising profile in global rankings, including EduRanking, UI GreenMetric and the AD Scientific Index, with ten academics recognised among Ghana’s Top 1000 Scientists in 2026.
The address concluded with an interactive session during which members of Convocation shared observations and recommendations. Prof. Honyenuga expressed appreciation for their contributions and urged unity in advancing HTU’s strategic vision and sustaining its reputation as a leading technical university.
