The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has engaged students of Ho Technical University (HTU) in a sensitisation programme on drug abuse prevention, encouraging them to make informed choices that promote healthy lifestyles and safeguard their academic and professional futures.
The session was held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the G.M. Afeti Auditorium as part of the launch of the 2026 HTU Business School Week celebration, observed under the theme “Driving Entrepreneurship for a Sustainable Future: The Role of HTU Business School.”
Facilitator ANCO Millicent Marfo, educated participants on the physical, psychological, and legal consequences of substance abuse. She explained that dependency often leads to behavioural and academic decline, warning that addiction impairs judgement and decision-making and can have lasting effects.
Other members of the NACOC team, ANCO Gilbert John Atioto and ANCO Desmond Dwamena Appiah, highlighted the legal sanctions associated with drug-related offences. They cautioned against the possession, sale, and trafficking of illicit substances, stressing that offenders risk severe penalties under Ghanaian law.
The interactive session also addressed questions on cannabis regulation, performance-enhancing drugs, informant reward schemes, and the dangers of transporting unverified parcels or consuming harmful substances.
The event brought together University Management, faculty, staff, students, NACOC officials, and invited guests, reaffirming HTU’s commitment to producing graduates who are academically and professionally competent, socially responsible, and equipped to contribute positively to national development.
