Ho Technical University (HTU) has signed a contract to establish a Centre of Excellence for training engineers in Biomedical Engineering under the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) Project.
The signing ceremony, held on June 24, 2026, at the University’s Council Chamber, brought together Managementof the University, representatives from SIFA, Lucas-Nülle GmbH, 5JS Ghana Limited, and the project team.
The project, which seeks to equip students in a state-of-the-art Biomedical Engineering, will provide hands-on, industry-oriented training in the installation, maintenance, and repair of biomedical equipment.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, described the project as a transformative investment that aligns with the University’s mission of producing highly skilled graduates capable of addressing industry needs. He commended the project team, for their dedication and resilience throughout the process. He urged the contractor to expedite work on the facility while maintaining the highest of quality standards and strict adherence to specifications.

Providing an overview to the Project, the HTU Coordinator, Dr. Jennifer E. Adaletey, recounted the journey of the initiative from its conception to the contract signing stage. She noted that the signing of the contract marks the transition from planning to implementation and represents a major milestone in HTU’s vision of establishing a state-of-the-art Biomedical Engineering Training Facility that will support in building local expertise, and reduce dependence on foreign technicians and contribute to the sustainability of healthcare systems in Ghana.
Ms Dzigbodi Ahuma, the SIFA Country Coordinator, and Mr. Bernard Stevens, a Representative of Lucas-Nülle GmbH, the German partner institution for the project both commended HTU for its commitment to advancing TVET. They reaffirmed their dedication to supporting projects that enhance skills development and create employment opportunities for the youth.

Mr. Joseph Dzamesi, the Managing Director of 5JS Ghana Limited, the company awarded the contract for the project, assured stakeholders of his commitment to delivering quality work within the stipulated timelines and specifications.
This landmark project positions HTU as a leader in biomedical engineering education in Ghana and beyond, reinforcing its role in driving innovation and skills development for national growth.
