Management of Ho Technical University (HTU) on Thursday, April 30, 2026 hosted a delegation from the Hotel, Catering, and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT), under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, to explore collaboration in hospitality and tourism education.
The delegation was led by the Ag. Director of HOTCATT, Dr. Eric K. Afornope, who announced plans to establish regional centres for short training programmes and to partner with HTU in introducing a professional certification scheme. He commended HTU for its exploits in hospitality and tourism, pledging HOTCATT’s commitment to advancing training through joint initiatives.
Accompanying him was Madam Grace Ohene Amponsah, Principal Instructor at HOTCATT, who underscored the Institute’s readiness to work closely with HTU to enhance professional standards in the sector.
Welcoming the team, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, provided a comprehensive brief on the University’s mandate, achievements, and strategic direction. He highlighted HTU’s transformation into a technical university of choice, its expanding academic programmes, and its strong emphasis on practical training and industry partnerships.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that hospitality and tourism remain priority areas for HTU, given their potential to drive socio-economic development in the Volta Region and beyond. He assured the delegation of management’s full commitment to collaborate with HOTCATT in advancing professional training, research, and certification, noting that such partnerships align with the University’s vision of producing graduates who are industry-ready and globally competitive.

The Head of Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Dr. Otilia Adzinyo, reinforced this by emphasizing that hands-on practical training is HTU’s niche, with students taken through rigorous exercises both on campus and during internships. She noted that this approach has distinguished HTU graduates in the industry and positioned the University as a leader in hospitality education.
The engagement highlighted HTU’s growing reputation as a hub for practical training and set the stage for a partnership that promises to enrich Ghana’s hospitality and tourism workforce.
Present at the meeting were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, the Ag. Registrar, Dr. Michael Todoko, the Ag. Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Francis Ganyaglo, and other deans and directors, who lent their support to the discussions.
