A reconstituted five-member Appeals Board of the University was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The board, chaired by a retired Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Lawrence L. Mensah, has Mrs. Mercy Haizel Ashin, Prof. Harry Akussah, Ms. Lucy Diawuo, Esq., and Prof. Edward K. Quashigah as members. The University’s Legal Officer, Ms. Dorothy Akortsu, will serve as Secretary to the Board.
The members’ appointments were approved by the University Council at its last sitting on January 3, 2025, and they will serve a three-year term.
At a brief ceremony, Prof. Honyenuga commended the members for accepting to serve on the board and urged them to work diligently to ensure peace and tranquility on campus.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the Appeals Board, whose second term has come to an end. They include Justice Kwesi Anto Ofori Atta (Rtd.), the former chairman, Mr. Alfred Teddy Konu, and Prof. Docea Akosua Gyanewa Fianu, former members.
Justice Mensah, on behalf of the board, thanked the University Council for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work proactively to address grievances.
Following the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ben Honyenuga, and the Registrar, Dr. Christopher Amehoe, took the new board through an orientation on the University, its governing law, and statutes to equip them for their new roles.
Other University officers present at the inauguration included the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christopher Mensah, Director of Finance, Mr. Kwame Owusu, Director of Works and Physical Development, Mr. Nicholas Awagah, and the Ag. Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Frank Klu.
The Appeals Board is a statutory body mandated to resolve disputes within the university community.
