HTU Wins 2nd Runner-Up Award at Ghana TVET Excellence Awards

Ho Technical University has been adjudged 2nd Runner-Up in the Best School (Tertiary Category) at the Ghana TVET Excellence Awards held in Accra on Monday, 14th April 2026.

The awards, organised by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) in collaboration with the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, celebrated institutions that demonstrate excellence in technical and vocational training.

Opening the ceremony, the Director-General of TVET, Dr. Zakaria Sulemana, explained that the initiative seeks to elevate standards and reshape perceptions of TVET in Ghana. He commended HTU’s achievement as an inspiration for the future of skills development.

The Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Clement Abas Apaak, in his remarks, described TVET as a strategic pillar for economic growth, stressing that it is “no longer a secondary path but central to driving reforms, quality, standardisation, and relevance, while building competent professionals for the nation.”

Representing the German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, Dr. Michael Blank urged stakeholders to rethink the future of skills development, noting that while artificial intelligence is advancing, hands-on technical expertise remains irreplaceable.

Receiving the award, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga said the recognition “reaffirms HTU’s status as a leading Technical University in TVET, reflecting our sustained commitment to excellence, innovation, and the development of graduates equipped to meet the evolving demands of industry and society.”

The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Ing. Prof. Mexoese Nyatuame, Director of the Technical and Vocational Education Research Centre, and Ms. Sylvia Jessica Quaye, Head of Protocol, Event and Publication at the Directorate of Public Affairs.
