After 13 weeks of fierce culinary competition, HTU has emerged as the winner of the first edition of Joy Prime Big Chef Tertiary television cooking reality show.
At the Grand Finale held on the HTU Campus on Sunday, October 1, 2023, Team HTU subdued Kumasi and Takoradi Technical Universities to claim the ‘host and win’ bragging rights.
The HTU contingent, consisting of one male and two females – Anyantson Sandra, Binbime Elizabeth, and Agbedanu Godsway, from the Hospitality and Tourism Department, impressed the judges with their delectable 3-course meal, prepared within an hour and a half.
This success follows the team’s consistent performance in the preliminary stages of the competition, where HTU was named star performers on at least four occasions.
As their prize, HTU received a cash prize of GHC20,000, a 10,000-litre Sintex tank, and various products from sponsors.
The all-female contingent from Takoradi and the all-male team from Kumasi secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Prior to the contest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ben Honyenuga, in his welcome remarks, highlighted HTU’s reputation as the leader in hospitality training in the country. He also commended the Multimedia Group and its partners for organizing such a competition to showcase the culinary skills of young people in the Technical Universities.
