The Department of Mathematics and Statistics within the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST) has presented six desktop computers to the University on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
The computers, according to the Head of Department, Dr. Worlanyo Saviour Akuamoah, were acquired using prize money from two national competitions in which the Department participated, along with contributions from lecturers and the Departmental students association.
One of the computers will be stationed at the Department’s secretariat, while the remaining five will be utilised in the laboratory.
Dr. John Coker Ayimah, a faculty member of the Department and Dean of FAST, said the computers will enhance the teaching of various statistical applications and software. He commended both staff and students for their support in furthering the University’s mandate.
Kofi Annan Quansah, the Departmental President of the Ghana Association of Statistics Students, expressed satisfaction in supporting this initiative with two computers and urged additional support from other stakeholders.
Together with the Dean of the faculty, Mr. Emmanuel Selase, Acting Director of Public Affairs, accepted the items on behalf of Management and lauded the Department for complementing Management’s efforts in providing necessary resources to enhance academic and administrative functions within the University. He noted the recent influx of donations to the institution and expressed optimism that this trend will persist.
The brief ceremony was witnessed by officers from the Directorates of Internal Audit and Finance; as well as other senior members of the Directorate of Public Affairs.
