The Director of Career Placement and Counselling, Dr. Sedem Amedome, has, on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, encouraged students to take deliberate steps towards achieving their career aspirations. This call follows a career counselling and mentorship session held at the precincts of the Asogli Block under its newly introduced Wellness Wednesday initiative.
The programme brought together officials of the Directorate and students for insightful discussions on career development, goal setting, employability, and personal growth. The initiative seeks to create a regular platform where students can access guidance and support, to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.
Welcoming participants, the Director of Career Placement and Counselling, Dr. Sedem Amedome, described Wellness Wednesday as a strategic intervention designed to bring career guidance closer to students and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an increasingly competitive and dynamic job market. He noted that the University is committed to ensuring that students pursue their academic programmes with a clear sense of purpose and direction.
“It is the wish of the Directorate and ultimately, the University’s desire that students of HTU live their daily lives with a clear purpose for the future and remain focused on the goals that brought them to the University,” he said.
Dr. Amedome further assured students of the Directorate’s continuous commitment to supporting their personal and professional development throughout their stay at the University, while preparing them to become competent and industry-ready graduates.
A key feature of the programme was a career mentorship session led by Mr. Selorm Akorli, Industrial Liaison Officer at the Directorate. He engaged students on managing expectations after graduation, setting realistic career goals, and positioning themselves for long-term professional success. He urged students to remain committed to their studies and take advantage of opportunities that would enhance their employability and career prospects.
The interactive session also featured a focus group discussion facilitated by Ms. Comfort Mensah, Senior Assistant Registrar and volunteer with Mind Allies; Ms. Agnes Aggor, Assistant Registrar at the Directorate; and Mr. Roger Gyening, Mind Allies Volunteer.
The facilitators encouraged students to remain open to opportunities beyond their immediate fields of study, emphasising that today’s dynamic job market offers diverse pathways for growth and success. They encouraged participants to embrace continuous learning, adaptability, and self-development as essential tools for career advancement.
The Wellness Wednesday initiative forms part of the University’s broader commitment to student welfare, career development, and graduate employability. The programme is scheduled to be held every fortnight, providing students with regular opportunities to engage with professionals, mentors, and career development experts as they prepare for life beyond the classroom.
